When和While的區別 ①when是at or during the time that, 既指時間點，也可指壹段時間，while是during the time that，只指壹段時間，因此when引導的時間狀語從句中的動詞可以是終止性動詞，也可以是延續性動詞，而while從句中的動詞必須是延續性動詞。 ②when 說明從句的動作和主句的動作可以是同時，也可以是先後發生；while 則強調主句的動作在從句動作的發生的過程中或主從句兩個動作同時發生。 ③由when引導的時間狀語從句，主句用過去進行時，從句應用壹般過去時；如果從句和主句的動作同時發生，兩句都用過去進行時的時候，多用while引導，如： a. When the teacher came in, we were talking. 當此句改變主從句的位置時，則為： While we were talking, the teacher came in. b. They were singing while we were dancing. ④when和while 還可作並列連詞。when表示“在那時”；while表示“而，卻”，表對照關系。如： a. The children were running to move the bag of rice when they heard the sound of a motor bike. 孩子們正要跑過去搬開那袋米，這時他們聽到了摩托車的聲音。 b. He is strong while his brother is weak. 他長得很結實，而他弟弟卻很瘦弱。

not only ……but also不僅而且

註意以下用法：

■主要用於連接兩個對等的成分；若連接兩個成分作主語,其後謂語動詞與靠近的主語保持壹致.如：

She likes not only music but also sport.她不但喜歡音樂而且喜歡運動.

The place was not only cold,but also damp.那個地方不但很冷而且很潮濕.

We go there not only in winter,but also in summer.我們不僅冬天去那兒,而且夏天也去.

Not only the students but also their teacher is enjoying the film.不僅學生們在欣賞這部影片,他們的老師也在欣賞這部影片.

■not only…but also…中的also通常可以省略,或換成too,as well（要置於句末）.如：

He not only washed the car,but polished it too [as well].他不僅沖洗汽車,而且還擦拭了它.

有時甚至連 but also 壹並省略掉.如：

Justice must not only be done; it must be seen to be done.正義不但必須伸張,而且要讓人看到正義得到了伸張.

She not only entered the competition—she actually won it!她不但參加了競賽——而且居然獲勝了!

■為了強調,可將not only置於句首,此時其後的句子通常要用部分倒裝的形式.如：

Not only has she been late three times,she has also done no work.她不僅僅遲到了3次,她還沒幹壹點活.

Not only do they need clothing,but they are also short of water.他們不但需要衣服,而且還缺水.
