漢語中有兩種雙關修辭：
1 諧音雙關：是指利用壹個詞意同或音近而兼顧兩種不同事物言此指彼的修辭手法。
(1) 音形皆同的諧音雙關
毛澤東寫於1957年的詞《蝶戀花·答李淑壹》中有壹句：？“我失驕楊君失柳，楊柳輕飏直上重霄九”中的“楊”實際上是指楊開慧，“柳”實際上是指柳直荀。
譯文：我失去了深受自己寵愛的妻子楊開慧妳失去了妳的丈夫柳直荀，楊柳二人的英魂輕輕飄向深廣的長空。
(2)同音不同形的諧音雙關。如李商隱《無題》“春蠶到死絲方盡，蠟炬成灰淚始幹”中“絲”即“思”的意思，以此來表達男女之間的思念。
(3)隱語諧音雙關。這種音的深層含義是指壹種不能明言的事件或人物命運等。這種雙關多用於文學作品中。如《紅樓夢》第五回：“可嘆停機德，堪憐詠絮才。玉帶林中掛，金簪雪裏埋。”詩中的“林”中掛的“玉帶”，“雪”中埋金簪，加上前面兩句詩，暗示了林黛玉、薛寶釵的命運。
(4)曲解諧音，即通過諧音使詞的意義擴大，壹音多詞。
如“談笑有鴻儒，往來無白丁”中“鴻”諧“紅”故能與“白”相對。再如“水舂雲母碓，風掃石楠花”中“楠”諧“男”，才能與“母”相對。
2語意雙關：是壹種根據詞的多義條件而故意導致言在此而意在彼的修辭方式。
常見於歇後語中：
“茶壺裏煮餃子—心裏有嘴倒不出”
