香港常常有些電影在廣告上保證“全場笑聲不絕”。這樣的電影,我國古人會說“真堪絕倒”,英國人會說 have people rolling in the aisles。
按aisle是戲院裏的通道。幽默電影會教觀眾笑得東倒西歪,坐在通道旁邊的,恐怕更會笑得“倒在通道上翻滾”。所以,have people rolling in the aisles 就是“哄堂”、“教觀眾或聽眾絕倒”的意思,例如: Our play was a great success.We had them rolling in the aisles.
