英語的定語從句向來是壹大難點，尤其是主句是過去式時，從句用什麽時態，在最近的壹次網課作業中也把我難住了，壹直認為“有完成意義時就用過去完成時，否則就是壹般過去時”，但仔細想又不太對。到底該用什麽時態呢?
壹般情況下賓語從句的時態必須和主句的時態保持壹致：
壹、如果主句的`謂語動詞是壹般現在時或壹般將來時，賓語從句中的謂語動詞可根據意義的需要，使用任何壹種時態。如：
Could you tell me when you will come again? 妳能告訴我妳什麽時候再來嗎?
I don't know if he arrived yesterday. 我不知道他是否昨天到了。
Could you tell me what you were doing at eight last night? 妳能告訴我妳昨晚八點在幹什麽?
二、如果主句的謂語動詞為壹般過去時，從句應用相應的過去時態。
1. 如果主句中的謂語動詞所表示的動作與從句的動作同時發生，則從句應用過去進行時或壹般過去時。如：
She said that she was working on the Internet. 她說她在上網。
He told me that he knew the computer technology very well. 他對我說他精通電腦技術。
2. 如果從句的動作發生在主句的動作之前，則從句應用過去完成時。如：
He didn't know what they had come here for. 他不知道他們到這裏來的目的。
3. 如果從句的動作發生在主句的動作之後，則從句應用過去將來時。如：
Jim told me he would spend his holidays in the south. 吉姆告訴我他將到南方度假。
使用賓語從句的時態還應註意下列特殊情況：
壹、如果賓語從句中有明確表示過去的時間狀語，不論主句用什麽時態，從句壹律用過去時。如：
She said she came to work here in 1998. 她說她是年來這裏工作的。
The teacher told us that the war broke out in the winter of 1923. 老師告訴我們那場戰爭爆發於年的冬天。
二、如果賓語從句表示客觀真理、科學原理、自然現象、現階段存在的客觀事實、現在經常性或習慣性的動作、諺語、格言等，不論主句用何種時態，從句壹律用壹般現在時。如：
Our teacher told us that light travels much faster than sound. 我們老師對我們說光比聲音傳播要快得多。
The mother told his son that two and three is five. 母親告訴孩子二加三等於五。
We all knew that a friend in need is a friend indeed. 我們都知道，患難之交才是真朋友。
He told me that his father is an English teacher. 他告訴我他父親是名英語老師。
